LAST WEEK:

Markets:  The Russell 2000 (Small Caps) was up over 21% in the first half of 2026.  Meaning:   that while the Magnificent 7 are still very important, the Market’s growth has broadened out a bit.  

S&P roller coaster last week:  Up significantly, Up a lot, Down, Flat, and Holiday.

Fed Balance Sheet:  $6.72 Trillion.   

Holiday:   Markets were closed last Friday, July 3rd, in observance of the July 4th Holiday.

ISM:  The Institute for Supply Management’s Manufacturing index dropped from 54.0 (June) to 53.3 (July).  A number below 50 implies an economic contraction, while a number above 50 implies an economic expansion.  

Jobs:   Coming off of a 172,000 jobs number (May), the June number disappointed, coming in at 57,000.

Metals:  Gold finished the week at $4,187.  Silver finished the week at $63.

National Debt:  $39.371 Trillion.  

Unemployment:  The U3 Unemployment number dropped a tick, from 4.3% down to 4.2%.

Focus of the week:  The Fed Minutes.  New Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has said he thinks the Fed talks too much.  So, just what will be in the Fed Minutes after Warsh’s first meeting as the new Fed Chair? 

Calendar:   The ISM Services index (Mon); the May Trade Deficit (Tue); Fed Minutes (Wed); June Existing Home Sales (Thu).
